Artcurial auction house

You may not have heard of it, but Artcurial is the largest French-owned auction house.

Since moving in 2002 to a beautiful, historic stone building - the Hôtel Marcel Dassault - two steps from the Champs Elysées, they now have a small café and an extensive bookshop specialising in design, photo, art, graphics etc. The décor, remodeled by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, has to be seen to be believed: original baroque details painted over in purple!

Looking round is free, so don't hesitate to go and see.

Basquiat

Encounter with the work of the pioneer of the underground scene

Moving from New York graffiti to a career as a star painter alongside Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-88) is the symbol of a generation.
This is the first major retrospective in Paris devoted to SAMO, a rebel on the fringe, who tragically died of an overdose, aged just 28 years old.
His work, ever-influenced by his urban environment, has its roots in cartoon strips, advertising and rap, and so defines a new popular cross-culture that is raw and Wild.
