A New Perspective On Chess From Anna Boghiguian's Win Or Lose

At Paris Fine Arts Museum

from the 2019-10-10 until the 2019-11-24

What can we do when the weather turns bad in the autumn and we need some entertainment? We could always go and play a giant game of chess at the Paris Fine Arts Museum. This new exhibition is one that will need to be seen to be believed. The show centres around the work of Armenian artist Anna Boghiguian. Her work is known for being grand and thought-provoking and this new exhibition is no different.

Win and Lose – or Gagne et Perd – brings a giant chessboard to the city with a choice of interesting pieces. One plays on the idea of soldiers vs demonstrators while the other looks at poets and philosophers vs politicians. The hand-painted figures hang from the roof for visitors to examine. But, there is also an interactive side to the show with chess tables and a chess tournament. This dramatic installation opens to the public on the 10th of October until the 24th of November. You don’t have to understand the rules of the game to appreciate the art and politics on show.
