George Braque is an artist of the XXth centry who personifies the “Honour of France” as Andre Malraux said. He was a friend of Picasso, Appolinaire, Gris, Laurens, Léger, Satie, Reverdy, de Stael and many other famous artists and he is at the center of cultural revolutions which moved the century. He was exhibited as he was alive, at the Louvre which he decorated the ceiling. The father of cubism, who had state funeral deserved this new regard as we commemorate his death, 50 years ago. This exhibition “Georges Braque l’Artisan du Génie” at the Terre des Arts gallery represents the 4th and last creative period, after the Fauve, Cubist and Thematic periods. This catalogue however suggests to follow the Four Times of Georges Braque’s work : Fauvism, Cubsim, Thematic period, Metamorphoses.
