Hans Hartung was one of the leading figures in Abstraction in the 20th century. His work has been revered by collectors and peers for decades as they talked about his influence on both the movement and art history more generally. However, he has been overlooked for a long time when it comes to French exhibitions.

A new show at the Museum of Modern Art is set to put that right with an impressive retrospective of his work, 30 years on from his death. The gallery acquired some of his work in 2017 and has since worked with other collections to bring together a chronological show. Visitors can walk through four phases of the artists work with examples in a range of mediums. There is so much here to explore that even if you aren’t familiar with his work, there is sure to be something for everyone. The show continues at the museum until the 1st of March.
