Berthe Morisot

Exhibition at Musée d'Orsay

When we think of leading, influential French painters of the Impressionist movement, we don’t always think of female artists. The era was dominated by male names – as were many different periods of art history. Monet, Degas, and Renoir became the stars that we see in galleries across the world. Female artists like Berthe Morisot were lost in the shadows a little.

This is deeply disappointing when we take a closer look at her work. Her painting capture moments of society and family life in a beautiful, delicate manner. They are wonderful time capsules that should be treasured at the same level as the paintings of her male peers.

Thankfully, the Musee d'Orsay plans to do precisely that next year. They have planned a summer-long exhibition dedicated to Berthe’s work.

The show is a joint effort from the gallery and the Dallas Museum of Art. It runs from June 18th until September 22nd.
